Photo Adventure @ Chicano Park’s 40th Anniversary

Liz took me to a new event a couple Sundays ago that I couldn’t help but photograph, Chicano Park Day :). Honestly I didn’t know much about it but when I went and got waist deep in Mexican culture I learned so much. There is something really enlightening about jumping into a new situation and being flooded with all this new stimuli (music, dancing, crazy hats, amazing food, ext.). It is really a great experience and I would defiantly recommend that you, go there and experience it for yourself. This year was the 40th year anniversary of the park and I know there will be many more to come. I got a lot of fun shots so…

So I have been all kinds of busy lately with the start of a new quarter. I have been shooting though, but taking my time on the photoshopping and web prepping part. On Tuesday March 30th I went up to Palm Springs to go to Passover dinner with my family. I brought a couple of my good friends Jedi Josh (of Ugga Chakka) and Justina came with me and Liz to visit my family. We all had a blast at sadder. During the day we went up to Mount San Jacinto and had fun in the snow.

Ahhh the winter Quarter is over! And to celebrate on Saturday the 28th I went out for a fun filled photo-shoot with Liz. We wanted to go somewhere where we knew it was pretty but still new to my camera. We decided on the J street marina which was a wonderful choice. Not to mention it was a perfect day out with not one cloud in the sky. Liz and I traded off the camera back and forth which was educational for both of us. I like feeling like a bad ass every now and then and for that 2 hours I was photojesus. We got a lot of good shots and really had fun with some of the new Photoshop color treatments I have been looking onto.

Cac Doll Painting / New Pictures

Today I did a new kind of art that I have always had an interest in, stencil spray painting. I took the cac doll vector from a couple weeks ago and decided that it would be the most interesting on a canvas. I spent a good amount of time on the stencils for this piece. I made one stencil for the outer shape of the cac doll, and then one for the face. I loved the experience of going to Wal-Mart to get supplies and have them look at me like I’m going to go tag up the store, funny things stereotypes are. Well anyways I got home and started working on the stencils and heard a bunch of little footsteps running around the yard. My girlfriend’s sister Laura came back from navy boot camp and the whole family was over. Which lead to having a miniature audience while spray painting in the yard which was fun.

For advanced illustrator class we had to show a lot of information graphically. I am also finishing up the Mobile Oasis ( the end is in sight :P ). Seeing the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone I made this.

But the biggest question is with all these ailments that treated with Cannabis, why is it still illegal?

Project Update: Vantage Cart

Ever since I started here at dotCOM Host I have been redesigning older sites that their previous designer made. This being said he did not have very good organizational skills. Which lead to loss of every file associated with most of his projects. The down side being I have to redo a lot of his work. But the up side to this is that I get to design from scratch and just use some of his text. This project has been one of my best works to date. Photo Adventure: 4 Years Anniversary Park N’ Beach

Last Tuesday was my girlfriend and I’s 4 year anniversary and we went out to make art together, an “inspired” idea I say. We went to our favorite park (c4c park) and walked around in the back trails to get some good shots. Then we still had pictures left on the memory card so we headed to Imperial Beach to shoot. We took a walk down to the end of the pier and back and finally filled up my memory card. A beautiful day :)

Vans Shoe Design Vector + NEW Blog Header!!

This was an in class assignment for my Advanced Illustrator class where we had to design a shoe in an hour. I always thought it would be funny to draw faces on a shoe so I did it!

Also in the newness category, I Just finished my new blog header (scroll up). My process involved picking a suitable font then hours of kerning and connecting letters just right. then I sent it to Photoshop and added the drop shadows and gradient overlays. Overall I am pleased with the result.

Finally yesterday my lovely girlfriend and I went on another photo adventure for our 4 year anniversary and we filled up my camera’s card so there will be a photo post to come once I find the time to sit down and review/edit those shots.

Project Updates: The Mobile Oasis Logo

Sorry for the break in my usual blogging routine. Vacation has a way of showing me there is a world outside of my computer. Over the holidays I went up to palm springs twice to visit my mom and my grandparents and had a family fun filled holiday.

On New Years I went to a really fun party at my buddy Carlos’s house in San Yasidro. Ugga Chakka played as usual and really rocked that house down. except for little hiccup due to some minor DJ intoxication. The best part had to be when we were up on the roof and watching all the fireworks go off in TJ after the 12am, simply beautiful. That city is so alive with an ocean of a billion of flickering lights. i still smile when i think about it.

Over the break I also had a party at my pad that I made a little flier for. I got the main image from 4walled and awesome desktop background site and just added the text. My favorite part was that it only took 15 min. I think I want to challenge myself and do more little fun art projects like this with a short time period. Ugga Chakka played and didn’t mess up once. Neddless to say THEY STILL OWE ME THAT MIXTAPE!!! (once they give it to me I’ll post it for streaming and download). The party turned out great which is to say there wasn’t any drama just a lot of close friends dressed in black. Some friends of mine who don’t normally come hang out got out from the rock they were hiding under and partied down, which is refreshing to see. Here is the flier:

Also I picked up a new freelance job over the break which I am very excited about. My good friend Anthony came to me with a business concept that I loved. He will be delivering medical marijuana to patients who otherwise cannot receive it. All customers will have to have there medical marijuana card and written recommendation by a doctor to even use this service but in the end he is just giving medicine to people who need it. He came to me and asked if I would be able to get him started with a logo, business card, and website. I jumped at he opportunity and am currently working on the business card. since I have started class I have found a way to mix the two into a job/class assignment. My first draft of the logo looked like this:

After discussing it we came to the realization that it looked like a floating coconut. Then after 3 days of fixes we finally came to a good design the day before school started back again. We wanted to incorporate marijuana but not the cliche marijuana leaf. So here is what I came up with:

This Saturday my girlfriend and I went on a little adventure to a place I used to go a lot in high school, The Dam in Eastlake. I haven’t been in a while so I thought it would be a good place to hike a little and get some good shots. We have been watching the graffiti grow as new artists paint over older pieces. We were privileged to meet a couple artists who were hard at work putting up new pieces. I decided not to take pictures of them in progress due to the illegality of their expression but just meeting them was good enough for me.
